Kory Yueh
Student of Distinction (2021)
Humanities
Norco College student Kory Yueh was selected as the 2021 Student of Distinction in the discipline of Humanities. He was nominated by Professor Ashley Silva. Hear from Kory on the Honors program and his experience at Norco College.
"Money was always something I worried about ever since I was a kid. I hate spending money, but I realized that community college was a really good option for what I was at the time. We're in a pandemic; it just didn't make sense to go to a four-year. The four-year experience... it wasn't available, whereas for a two-year, I felt it made a lot of sense. I knew that the education here was more than just the classroom; it was the people, the students I meet, so that was something priceless that I thought I wouldn't be able to get anywhere else but here."
"So my majors are history and political science. I'm currently still thinking about what I want to do, but I'm thinking going to grad school for either a master's or a Ph.D. I'm still debating my career choices but I'm thinking of becoming a professor. I might go into the foreign service, become an intelligence analyst; it's very hard to say. I might even go into a think tank, maybe a museum."
"So Norco College has helped me a great deal. The honors program is one, the clubs, the experience so far. I feel the professors are very accommodating compared to a four-year where, you know, you have classrooms full of maybe hundreds of kids. Norco College, here, it's more compressed especially in the honors program; you only have 20 students. It's a lot easier to have a conversation, and it's a lot easier to have meaningful conversations too in the classroom about whatever it is, content, even life."
