Help & Training

Norco College provides a wide variety of training resources to help students, faculty, and staff become more proficient with computing resources and applications, to facilitate academic and job productivity. Technology workshops are offered through the Professional Development Committee and Staff Professional Development Program. LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com) provides unlimited access to thousands of online training videos on technical and business applications. The Help and Training page contains links to all of these resources, including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), videos and user guides.

Flyers

Remember that flyers (jpeg, png, pdf, etc.) are essentially images. When you are creating flyers, add alt-text to the flyer in order for the information on the flyer to be accessible to community members with visual impairments. Oftentimes, the easiest way to do this is to include all the verbiage listed on the flyer in the alt-text. Depending on how you're inserting an image (whether by attachment, or directly into the message), the accessibility processes are different. The DRC can provide training if you have questions on how to make your flyer accessible.

Videos

All videos shared in the college community (whether in a class or via email) must be captioned. This allows our deaf and hard of hearing community members to access the information on the video. Here are some resources to help with the captioning of videos:

Mediasite: In February of 2021, TechSmith announced that they will discontinue Knowmia, their video storage service. Even though TechSmith is discontinuing Knowmia, RCCD faculty will have access to their videos through June 30, 2022. The District (colleges and district office) are making plans to migrate Knowmia videos to Mediasite on behalf of faculty.

The District has been using Mediasite for over a decade. Mediasite integrates with Canvas, and faculty may access Mediasite through the external tools icon (looks like a plug) in the Canvas Rich Content Editor. While the migration date of Knowmia videos to Mediasite is still to be determined, faculty may create new content immediately, using this tool.

There is nothing you need to do at this point. If you need assistance or want to learn more about Mediasite and other media tools available to faculty, you may make an appointment with our Accessible Technology & Media Coordinators.

Emails

If you are inserting images in your emails, please include alternative text by right clicking on the image and selecting “Format Picture”. Next, click on the third icon called “Layout and Properties”. Now click on “Alt Text” and provide a description of what the image is displaying. This allows screen readers to describe the image to an individual with visual impairments.
