Here is her campaign statement:
Hello RCCD students! My name is Rochelle Duran and would love to be your Student Trustee!
I’m currently a student-athlete and first generation college student at Norco College.
I’m currently a part of the Associated Students of Norco College as the Vice President
of Campus Organizations and a part of the women’s cross country team. I’m also involved
in several clubs/organizations on campus including the Honors program, E-Sports Association,
EOPS, Stem, and Veteran’s club. Being involved in such diverse communities on campus
has made me a better leader and person. I choose to be in leadership roles because
I want to make a difference and to bring a sense of community. As Student Trustee,
I want student representation at Board of Trustee meetings and will listen to your
concerns so the board has a better understanding of students’ perspectives. Our voices
need to be heard and I will advocate for empowerment of all students. Each student
must be recognized as a real person, with a real face/identity and individual struggles
and needs. Before important decisions are made, I believe students have a right to
voice their opinions/concerns instead of the Board making last minute decisions that
affect our students. I believe in accountability for all and true equity. I’m a tenacious
leader and will not take no for an answer when it comes to students' best interests
at heart. I believe all three campuses should work together as a family unit with
the same available resources for all students. I support genuine diversity and want
to emphasize the word “trust” in trustee and earn students trust to allow me to represent
the student body for our school district.
