Student artists from the Art 3D design class created sculptural works around campus as part of a class assignment.

The pieces utilized natural materials and were designed to complement and interact with chosen locations.

Virma Cardenas and Alexandra Lopez created the Circle of Life artwork around a tree. They were inspired by the height of the bushes which made them think of a lion’s mane. The students began researching different sculptures of lions and were motivated by Antonio Canova’s crouching lion. They also added cubs to complete the art piece.

“It took three weeks to find the location and complete the art piece,” said Cardenas.  “The Circle of Life originated from the movie Lion King and the art was displayed in a circle to capture that interpretation.”
