A student club initiated in the spring by English major Cynthia McGuire and a small group of dedicated students published Clear Perspectives: Publication designed for students to express themselves through creative writing outlets.
As the pandemic required Norco College to move from on-campus to online, the group continued forging ahead to establish a student publication and to release two issues, one at the end of April and another at the end of May.
For the May issue, the club, with the support of the Associated Students of Norco College, hosted a writing contest for students. The winners are as follows:
- First place: Tori Duncan for her short story “And the War Came"
- Second place: Cesar Villatoro for his short story “Riverbend"
- Third-place (two winners): Aaron Meek for his short story “Waitress and a Zombie in a Restaurant," and Jason Morales for his short story “The Mannequins of St. Tristan"
“We are so proud of the writers and contest winners, as well as the students who initiated, organized, designed, and edited these issues of Clear Perspectives," said Kris Anderson, publication advisor and professor of English. “The students' desire to create a venue for their voices to be heard could not be more relevant than it is today."
