Norco College released 41 new program pages to help students understand and navigate certificate and degree options. Pages include career options, trailheads, major information, and student/faculty profiles. The program pages have also been added to the A-Z index. This week's program spotlight is on the Sociology program.

Sociology is the study of society, including patterns of social relationships, social interaction, and culture. Sociology studies the development, structure, functioning and social problems of human society. Sociology majors learn to conduct research about the social world. They gather and analyze data using both qualitative research methods and statistical tools. Students who major in sociology write reports to convey research findings and present their perspective on social issues.

Career Options

Career options for students who get a degree in sociology include: human resources manager, project manager, public relations specialist, guidance counselor, human resources representative, lawyer, management consultant, media planner, social worker, and survey researcher.

Denise Prado

Denise Prado

Two months after graduating from Rubidoux High School in 2003, Denise Prado enlisted in the Army. She survived three tours in Iraq. When she returned home, she decided to enroll at Norco College and major in sociology. On June 12, 2014, Denise and the rest of the 2014 class participated in the annual graduation ceremony at the College. Prado will continue her studies at UC Riverside. Ultimately, she hopes to become a counselor for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“There have been several people who have been instrumental in helping me adapt to my educational demands,” Prado said. “I will reflect back and be thankful for all the positive role models who have crossed my path. Those who have made an impact on my life and helped me be where I am today in this educational journey. At Norco College, I’ve had the privilege to meet amazing professors and work such friendly staff members. I will truly miss the College.”
