Norco College students from the Manufacturing Technology programs recently had the opportunity to participate in an informative tour of Tolar Manufacturing, thanks to a partnership with the Manufacturers’ Council of the Inland Empire (MCIE). The tour, coordinated by Norco College’s Career Education team, including Paula Barrera Partida, Employment Placement Coordinator, and Juan Gonzalez, Apprenticeship Director, provided students with a unique, hands-on learning experience that deepened their understanding of the manufacturing industry.
During the tour, students were introduced to key members of the Tolar team, including Patrick Merrick, Executive Vice President, and Eli Meza, Engineering Manager. The visit allowed students to observe the daily operations at Tolar Manufacturing, including the meticulous work that goes into producing the company’s high-quality transit shelters, street furniture, and other innovative solutions.
“This tour was a fantastic opportunity for our students to see how their classroom learning translates into real-world applications,” said Juan Gonzalez. “It’s experiences like these that inspire students and help them envision their future careers in manufacturing.”
Patrick Merrick expressed his enthusiasm for the visit, stating, “Tolar Manufacturing had the privilege of hosting students and educators from Norco College, telling our story, and providing a facility tour. The students on a manufacturing education path had the opportunity to see how their career path could fit in with one local manufacturer. On a personal level, we can make no better investment as a community than in our youth. Thanks to the Manufacturers’ Council of the Inland Empire and Norco College for setting up the tour.”

“We are deeply grateful to both MCIE and Tolar Manufacturing for making this tour possible,” said Paula Barrera Partida . “These partnerships are critical in helping our students gain the practical experience they need to thrive in their future careers. By bridging the gap between education and industry, we are actively contributing to the development of a skilled workforce that meets the needs of our community.”
