The Federal Department of Education awarded Norco College two Student Support Services (SSS) grant renewals and a new SSS-STEM grant. Annual funding for all three grants is $798,881 annually, which results to $3.99 million over the next five years. The purpose of the SSS-TRiO Program is to provide academic and other support services to low-income, first generation or college students with disabilities to increase students' retention and graduation rates, and facilitate their transfer.
Under the leadership of Hortencia Cuevas, the programs will provide services to a minimum of 380 students. SSS Programs provide academic tutoring, educational and career counseling services, financial literacy, exposure to cultural events and academic programs not usually available to disadvantaged students, assistance in applying for transfer, and tours to four-year postsecondary institutions. These grants directly support students and aid us in reaching our strategic planning goals related to student access, equity, and success.
