More than 50 students, faculty, and classified professionals at Norco College participated in a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Friday, Jan. 17, dedicating their time to campus and community service projects in honor of King’s legacy.

The event encouraged participants to reflect on the question, “Where do we go from here?” before engaging in various service activities both on-site and off-campus.

Service activities included:

  • Bunker Hill Trail Cleanup (On-site): Led by Gustavo Oceguera and Natalie Aceves, students removed debris and graffiti, making a visible impact on Bunker Hill.
  • Rose M. Eldridge Senior Center (Off-site): Under the guidance of Ariel Davis and Hortencia Cuevas, volunteers created Valentine’s Day cards and crafts with residents, fostering connections and leaving an open invitation to return.
  • Basic Needs and Wellness Campus Closet (On-site): Led by Kimberly Thomas, director of Basic Needs and Wellness, students assembled toiletry care packages for fellow Norco College students in need.
  • Riverside Chamber of Commerce — Love Your Neighborhood (Off-site): Led by Darnell Bing, Vyvyana Woolridge, Kiandra Jimenez, Elizabeth Lopez, and Gilbert DeLeon, students assisted with street cleanup efforts in Riverside, contributing to the city’s beautification.

The MLK Day of Service reinforced Norco College’s commitment to community engagement and civic responsibility, empowering participants to honor King’s vision through meaningful action.
