Norco College hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of the Unity
Zone, a new space on campus designed to inspire belonging, creativity, and community.
The Unity Zone offers students a bigger, brighter, and safer place to gather, share
experiences, and build meaningful relationships.
The center reflects Norco College’s core values of equity, inclusion, and opportunity
for all. By opening this center, the college reaffirms its commitment to ensuring
every Mustang has the support and environment they need to thrive, regardless of background,
identity, or status.
Notable guests included a representative from Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes’ office,
who presented the college with a certificate of recognition; members of TODEC; a representative
from the Riverside Community College District Foundation; and several community partners.
For many students, the Unity Zone has already become a transformative resource. “I
am so thankful for being a part of the Unity Zone,” said Anthony Morales, a Norco
College student. “I was a very shy and introverted student, and the Unity Zone brought
me out of my shell.”
Dean of Special Funded Programs, Daniela McCarson shared “the opening of the Unity
Center is a powerful reflection of our community’s shared values. I am deeply proud
of the collaboration that made this new space possible and the unwavering support
it represents for our LGBTQIA+ and undocumented students. This center stands as a
promise that every student belongs here, and that their identities, voices, and dreams
are celebrated and supported.”
The Unity Zone will serve as a hub for student engagement, cultural celebration, and leadership
development, providing a welcoming environment where all students can learn, grow,
and succeed together.
