In recognition of LGBTQ+ History Month and as part of Norco College’s annual LGBTQ+ Speaker Series, we recently welcomed Mx. NV Gay (they/she) for “Trans in America,” a powerful presentation on what it means to be transgender today. Mx. Gay highlighted the key challenges faced by trans individuals and shared photographs and quotes from their “This is Trans” photography project, which celebrates the beautiful diversity of the trans community.

During the event, they were asked how we as a campus can contribute to creating a more inclusive environment. Their advice was simple yet impactful: start by adding pronouns to our email signatures to affirm and respect one another’s identities. She also shared several key ways to be an ally to transgender people, inspiring reflection on understanding, authenticity, and pride within our campus community.
