The Men of Color Scholars at Norco College kicked off the semester with two successful events aimed at fostering community, reflection, and personal growth. The first event, a Game Night, brought together over 58 members of the Norco College community for an evening filled with laughter, games, and conversation. Students, faculty, and staff enjoyed a variety of games that encouraged bonding and camaraderie, creating an inclusive and supportive atmosphere. The pizza was a hit and disappeared within the first hour, adding to the excitement and energy in the room. The event provided an excellent opportunity for students to connect with peers and build relationships, setting a positive tone for the semester ahead.
In addition to Game Night, the Men of Color Scholars hosted their first Man Cave Talk (MCT) of the semester in September, offering a space for more introspective dialogue. These talks are designed to provide a judgment-free zone where students can reflect on personal barriers to academic success and practice self-awareness in a supportive environment. The first MCT of the semester, attended by over 28 scholars, centered on the theme of "New Beginnings." Participants discussed important lessons learned from their past, explored how to overcome the instinct to run away from challenges, and shared strategies for seizing new opportunities to pursue their academic and personal goals.
The Men of Color Scholars program is dedicated to creating a strong sense of community among its members, while also empowering students to overcome obstacles and thrive. By offering events like Game Night and the Man Cave Talks, the program provides both social and reflective opportunities that foster personal growth and academic resilience.
