The Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC) has recently announced
a new initiative to enhance the success of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific
Islander (AANHPI) students enrolled in California Community Colleges. The California
Community Colleges AANHPI Student Achievement Program (SAP) is a partnership between
FoundationCCC, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO), and
the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs (CAPIAA).
FoundationCCC will serve as the Central Office for the AANHPI Student Achievement
Program, acting as the primary point of contact for information, guidance, and resources
related to the program. This will ensure that AANHPI students have access to the resources
they need to succeed academically and that they are connected with the right support
systems.
Norco College was named one of forty eligible California Community Colleges to receive
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program
funds for this year. Eligible colleges were selected based on legislative guidelines,
including student population and need. Norco College has the opportunity to provide
additional support and resources to their AANHPI student population, further enhancing
their academic success. “What a wonderful opportunity to scale efforts and impact
our AANHPI students' lives,” commented Norco College President Monica Green.
Director of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Student Achievement
Program, Anthony Amboy, shared, “On behalf of the AANHPI Student Achievement Program,
we look forward to serving the California Community Colleges, our AANHPI community,
underrepresented student populations, and AANHPI allies focused on community college
student success.”
This announcement comes at a perfect time, as May is Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage
Month.
