NORCO COLLEGE RANKS BEST FOR VETS - ONE OF ONLY FOUR CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES TO MAKE THE RANKING

For the fifth time in six years, Norco College ranked Best for Vets by the Military Times. The College is ranked number 17 out of 28 two-year colleges nationwide, and number two of only four California community colleges to make the ranking.

"What an honor to be repeatedly ranked among the best colleges for veterans," said Interim President Monica Green. "Norco College is committed to serving veterans and active service members in their transition from classroom to career. I share this excitement with our remarkable employees who work tirelessly to provide quality resources."

Recently, Norco College and the Strong Workforce Desert Regional Consortium developed the military articulation platform to enable institutions to match military job classifications to college curriculum, and gives veterans college credit for military training. Norco College has a 73 percent military retention rate and a 67 percent graduation rate.

According to the Military Times, hundreds of two- and four-year colleges, online schools, and career technical colleges were surveyed across the country on their policies related to military and veteran students, academic outcomes, and military-supportive cultures and found that:

  • This year's Best for Vets schools developed new and innovative approaches to supporting student veterans.
  • Nearly 60 percent of schools that responded to the survey set up automated alert systems to let faculty and staff know when student veterans are struggling in class and provide the resources they need.
  • About 1 in 5 schools created special degree programs for service members or veterans. These programs help vets earn degrees more quickly, by giving them credit for their military training and then picking up academically where the training left off.
