Norco College, along with Riverside City College and Moreno Valley College, is proud to offer "Know the Signs", a statewide suicide prevention social marketing campaign built on three key messages: Know the signs. Find the words. Reach out. This campaign is intended to educate Californians how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, how to find the words to have a direct conversation with someone in crisis and where to find professional help and resources.

These monthly events are open to faculty, staff, students, and the community all across the Riverside Community College District (RCCD).

The next session will be held on July 25, 2024, via Zoom. Participants will engage in interactive discussions aimed at identifying early signs of depression, accessing crucial resources, and understanding risk factors. This workshop is designed to empower attendees with the knowledge and tools needed to recognize and address a the warning signs of suicide.

"This initiative is crucial in creating a dialogue around mental health and promoting a safe, supportive environment within our college community," said Sheree Summers, Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Supervisor at Norco College. "It encourages participants to ask important questions, build confidence, and seek assistance when needed."

Feedback from staff supports the significance of such resources in fostering a supportive campus environment. "This resource is vital to creating a safe space and providing a support system to students that may not have it otherwise," shared staff member Virginia Perez.

In addition to these monthly presentations, Norco College offers confidential 1:1 on-campus and virtual therapy sessions, ensuring personalized support for students. Appointments can typically be scheduled within a week to provide timely assistance after submitting a referral.

"We are committed to providing affordable health services for our students," stated Cathleen Chou, Director of Health Services at Norco College. "Our referral system ensures that students can request medical or mental health assistance promptly, with no fees for mental health services and affordable aftercare for medical health."
