The AANHPI Student Achievement Program (AANHPI SAP) and Trailblazers Scholars Program recently provided students with opportunities to engage in cultural experiences, explore transfer pathways, and connect with their peers through two events in September.
On Sept. 19, 14 students participated in a field trip to the California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) SoCal PowWow, an event celebrating Native American cultures, traditions, music, dance, and community. Students experienced cultural performances and learned about Native American traditions while participating in an experiential learning opportunity outside the classroom.
The field trip also included a CSUSB campus tour and information about the Transfer Success Pathway (TSP). Students explored the university campus while learning about transfer opportunities and resources available to community college students. The experience connected cultural learning with an opportunity to explore a potential four-year transfer destination.
On Sept. 22, the AANHPI SAP, AANHPI Club, and Trailblazers Scholars Program hosted
a TaikoMix Japanese Drumming event, which attracted more than 60 attendees. The event
featured a traditional Japanese taiko drumming performance and Japanese food, providing
students with an opportunity to learn about Japanese culture through music, performance,
and food. The event also brought students from across campus together for cultural
programming and peer connection.
Together, the events provided opportunities for students to engage with different cultural traditions while exploring educational pathways and building connections on and beyond campus.
