Maybe you know this feeling,
a solo exhibition by Alyson Provax
7 x 7in., Letterpress on Hahnemühle Copperplate, 2023
Norco College Art Gallery is pleased to present:
Exhibition Title: Maybe you know this feeling, a solo exhibition by Alyson Provax
Exhibition Dates: November 4, 2024 - December 6, 2024
Opening Reception and Art Talks: Thursday, November 14, 12:30pm - 2pm
Norco College Art Gallery
2001 Third St., ST-111, Norco, CA 92860
About the exhibition:
Alyson Provax is a text based artist. Her primary medium is letterpress, and she often uses repetition as a drawing tool rather than to make multiple originals. This calls into question the didactic certainty of text and can cause the viewer to notice the experience of reading. She is interested in the ways that we communicate things we are a bit uncertain of and how we tie our understanding of ourselves to language.
Alyson Provax has shown her work nationally at Upfor Gallery in Portland, Oregon, at A.I.R. Gallery and The Untitled Space in New York, San Francisco Center for the Book, and internationally at the Blueproject Foundation in Barcelona. She has an interest in alternative projects and has produced letterpress billboard works shown in Seattle for Vignettes and Gramma’s A LONE, for something nameless in Portland, and for Montalvo Arts Center’s lone some. Alyson’s work has been published in the Buckman Journal, Berm, Poetry Northwest, and The Racket. Her first book was published by Volumes Volumes in 2019, and in 2023 her second book was published by National Monument Press. Her work can be found in the collection of SFMOMA Library and Harvard University Library.

Grieving in Color, Winter 2023

(The Art Gallery was closed during the winter break, Dec. 16 - Feb. 11)
Image: Cristina Victor, High Tide (Detail), mixed media on paper, brazed stilt, 2023
About the Artist
Cristina Victor is a Cuban-American artist whose making always stems from the hyphen. Her interdisciplinary
practice materializes storytelling, meditations on the failure and power of language,
auto-ethnography, and critiques the framing of identity by mass media outlets. Using
textiles, sculpture, installation, and public engagement she is committed to creating
and facilitating generative exchanges about the complexities of our collective and
individual human experience. Vexillology, analogue graphic design and archiving act
as foundational threads in her translations. Her concern for access balances her formal
object making and public engagement projects.
Victor received her AA from the New World School of the Arts, her BA from Sarah Lawrence
College, and her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She is currently based
in Charleston, South Carolina and is a Professor at the College of Charleston.

scroll paintings.
The twenty-one oil paintings in this exhibition depict landscapes and embodied memories
of place. Nguyen’s complex use of oil paint reveals a mastery of texture and a keen
observation of the colorful natural world. Upon close inspection the viewer can observe
playful and surprising configurations that unveil the whimsical mind of the artist
and depict the wonderous cycles of life.

Norco College Faculty Exhibition Catalog 2021, Spring 2021
Studio Art & Art History Faculty Discussion
Norco College Art Gallery is pleased to present this digital catalog, featuring the
work of the Norco College Studio Art and Art History faculty. In normal times, this
project would have been a Faculty Exhibition in the Art Gallery, to be experienced
in-person. In this time of pandemic, however, virtual options for art exhibitions
have become a common approach for many galleries and museums. Rather than creating
a virtual reality of a mock gallery space, we have chosen to create a lasting document
which will archive the images and words of our faculty.
